Where isthe DVD??

As someone who works in a video store, it's very disheartening to see the endless flow of garbage onto DVD, while gems like this remain in the vaults. An article in a video trade magazine says that the major studios have run out of material to put on DVD and are awaiting HD-DVD (or Blu-Ray?)so they can re-sell us the same crap. I can name many films that remain unreleased, this being one of them, that people are dying to see. Everyday someone comes into the store looking for something and it isn't available on DVD or even VHS.

reply

It's probably in some kind of legal limbo with MGM.

reply

The DVD should be released....instead we are (as you pointed out) stuck with multiple releases of DVDs like "Cube" and "Children of the Corn 666."
I remember loving this movie as a kid when it appeared on TV (usually on a rainy Sunday afternoon). Randy Newman's music, Dick Van Dyke, Bob Newhart, Norman Lear behind the camera.......all reasons to release it, plus it's funny as hell.
It is probably caught up in some friggin legal dispute. Don't lawyers and lawsuits ruin everything?

Well I gotta go now Duane.....I'm due back on the planet Earth

reply

I agree. Put it on DVD now!

Ditto. A hundred times over!

sicos dont explode when daylight hits them, i dont care how crazy they are - from dusk till dawn

I just watched this again on the VHS copy I have (I loathe watching things on videotape anymore without letterbox!). It really is a good movie, with a lot of funny funny moments such as Dr. Proctor's nicotine fit induced lines, (paraphrasing here) "There's got to be a new hospital...and they have to name it after me! The Doctor Proctor Hoctor...!"

Amazon.com has a page for this - if you want to put your email as a signature that you would like this title on DVD click the DVD icon at the top right of the 'Cold Turkey' main page.

The Friends of Eddie Coyle needs to be released on DVD!

reply

how can I get this movie on vcr! I've been looking for this movie for years!

reply

I don't think it's available new anymore, but go on Amazon.com You can get a used copy of it from a variety of sources.

Good luck!

reply

Five years on from the last post, it is now available on Amazon (I just bought one)....new.

Don't waste your time, they don't work-they are counted as one letter, and because these petitions are mostly e-mail, they are deleted quickly. Send individual snail mail letters instead.

That's a damn shame that this film is not on DVD. It would be so great if a whole new generation of filmgoers could discover this gem.

reply

It's a bigger conspiracy than the asas..assasi..oh s**t, than the cover up of JFK by the state of Iowa to keep this movie from it's fans. They were greatly embarrased by the notorious "Cornhole Bandit" who used to accost women in barns throughout the state and force them to watch reruns of "Gidget" while acting out weird perversions! INDEED! Write the State of Iowa and MGM!

reply

Yeah, keep on saying this *beep* all it does is make you look like a homeless person with a tinfoil hat on their head.

reply

Agree, it sells for up to $60 on ebay! I bought it used for my parents, watched it last night and LOVE it!

I'll give him 20 more minutes-and that's it!- Airplane!

reply

You're lucky to have found it, but $60 is quite a price to pay. I remember this airing on television in the '70s, and I found it hilarious. I'd love to watch it again. We need a DVD (or cheapo VHS copies).

reply

I just ordered it on Amazon, and paid the list price of $19.98. Oh well...

Cold Turkey is finally available on DVD thru the MGM on demand DVD service.

I was lucky to see this on the big screen a couple months ago with Bob Newhart and Norman Lear in attendance for a Q&A. One of the funniest movies I've ever seen. I'm purchasing it immediately.

I bought it, too, although it was advertised as only being available in full screen and NOT letterboxed. I would have preferred the wide-screen, but would take any version because it's a fun movie. I remember seeing it in the movies when it was first released.

The weird thing is that the movie IS the wide-screen version on dvd after all. The sound sometimes is hollow and sort of echos. The sound has not been transferred well, but the picture look fine and it is the wide-screen version.

reply

Yes, the sound is hinky in a number of places--has a flat "tinny" quality. I'm just glad the movie's on dvd at last.

reply

Amen, we want it and need it in DVD!!!
