How did the real town of Eagle Rock

Like having their town portrayed negatively I wonder? I looked it up and there's a real town in Iowa named that, although none of the scenes are credited as being shot there.

It's fictional, shot in Greenfield IA for the most part, although a few things (like the church) were shot in nearby towns.

My guess is that the combination of hollywood stardom, economic impact, and obvliviousness combined to make most people in the town happy. The story is, on the surface, about a town which gives up smoking, which of course Greenfield did not do. So people may have missed (or ignored) the commentary about small town life, greed, economic depression and desperation, etc. which could have been about Greenfield as easily as fictious Eagle Rock.

The town was likely made to look bad for plot purposes, too. The opening scene with a gravel main street and depressing signs likely was not the main road into town. Greenfield was about 4,000 people.
