Beware hacked-up TV versions!

Was so happy to stumble on this for the first time in years on This TV the other day, but when I watched it I was appalled at how much was chopped out. We all know this is a common practice on TV with movies and with syndicated shows. But it really drove me nuts after awhile. The final straw was when they completely axed Natalie (the preacher Clayton's wife) screaming from the rooftop in her nightgown. Such a capstone moment for the subplot of Clayton's personality discarded. Ugh!

If you've never seen this movie, you won't know how much good stuff you're missing and may well still enjoy it. But if you're more familiar with the movie, watching this kind of a showing might leave you more annoyed than entertained.

If you don't have a copy of your own to watch, it's on Youtube in seven segments, though one segement has the sound out of synch a bit.

Just out of curiosity: What network did you see this on? This used to be a staple on television in the '70s, but I'm surprised it would still be making the rounds. Fortunately, I have it on VHS.

Seeing this with edits is better than not seeing it at all, but it certainly loses a lot of momentum.

I first saw it on network TV and just saw it unedited a few months ago. In the network TV version, they showed Rev. Clayton's wife screaming. In fact, it was shown pretty much intact just with breaks for the commercials.
