Questions (spoilers)

1. Why did Alex want to try the new method?

Did he really want to be "good"? Or did he want to get out of prison anyway? Or did he think that the method cannot change him? Something else? Is it more apparent in the book?

Also, did it serve the story or the "message"? Wouldn't the free will/control contrast have been more effective if they forced Alex to do the experiment?

2. What did the humiliation of Alex after the experiment prove?
He could have pretended to be nonviolent and obedient as he did in the prison. What was the evident for the audience that he was not pretending just to be a free man again?

reply

1) yes, he thought it would be an easy way out of prison.
2) he could have faked it but that was why they made it extremely humiliating to see if he would crack.
Besides I don't think Alex would know how the treatment would work so he wouldn't know how to fake it.
