Extended Version

Several years after Carnal Knowledge was first released there was another release with additional footage. This additional footage contained more scenes of AnnMargaret. Anyone know where a copy of that version might be obtained? Please email to [email protected]

The possibility of an extended version of 'Carnal Knowledge' intrigues me.

Where did you hear of this?

I remember seeing this movie on late night TV years ago, and it was advertised as being a different, extended cut. The most memorable thing about it was one of the scenes of A-M in bed talking now showed bare breasts.

It was a pretty long scene, and frankly, it was very hard to pay attention to what she was saying...

Just saw this film uncut and widescreen on TCM, The overall length from beginning to end is about 102 min yet IMDB lists it at 98 ..

In the 1980s, I saw Carnal Knowledge at a theater. The version I saw had more of Ann Margret (full frontal nudity) than the version recently aired on TCM.

Ha!

I had the same problem when I saw this scene, which I remember seeing in the theater . . . but not in the recent TCM broadcast.

But yes, her body English far outweighed her verbal skills in this particular seldom-seen scene.

Thanks for everyone's comments!

Not sure how others remember it,
but as I recall, Ann-Margaret's endowments
were well displayed in the theatrical release . . .
but not in the recent TCM airing.

Don't know it for a fact, but there must be an extended version.

Thanks again for reassuring me of these scenes. . .
I was beginning to think I'd lost it.

I think you and others may be confusing this with her appearance in the film "Magic," co-starring Anthony Hopkins.

The original release included a lengthy shop of the two of them talking in bed, with a long exposure of her breasts, albeit in a darkly lit scene.

At her request (if I recall), the film was recut so that this scene was both shortened and darkened.

I don't know of an extended cut featuring more of Ann-Margaret but the TCM is definitely cut. I just watched it. Missing is the scene in which Candice Bergen calls Jack Nicholson to break up and says something to the effect of, "We can still be friends" and he says, "God, I hope not."

Also, Rita Moreno's closing speech is missing the final line, "It's up. It's up in the air."

reply

That's odd. I also just watched this on TCM (for the first time), but I definitely saw both things that you claim to have not seen.

That's why you and I don't see eye-to-eye sometimes, Jack; because you're a man of science.

reply

That really is odd. Maybe I've gone insane.

Ditto! I also watched the recent TCM airing of the film, and both were included. I was astonished that TCM did not overdub, bleep, or edit the "adult content." I was prepared to hear the word "freaking" dubbed over the F word, but it wasn't. It's the first time that I've heard the C word used in a film on a cable channel that wasn't "premium" (e.g. HBO, Showtime, etc.). Kudos to TCM for running "Carnal Knowledge" without diluting the film's impact by censoring for content!

In 1974, I saw Carnal Knowledge for the first time at a theater. I haven't seen both versions to be much help but there may have been more nudity in the version I saw.
