Was there another movie planned?

I just found the following site: http://home.planetinternet.be/~bliek/drew-page/mov-32.htm
Was there really a movie planned called "The Return of Billy Jack"?

Also, how in the heck to I make it so you can click on the URL and not have to copy and paste?

Thanks

type a left bracket ( [ ) then url with no space and a right bracket ( ] ), then type or paste the url you want to link to. After the url type [ / url ] (without the spaces). That ends the url and makes the link hot.

There was one movie made before Billy Jack "Born Losers" and two sequels The Trial of Billy Jack on Billy Jack Goes to Washington. Tom Laughlin has been trying to get another Billy Jack movie made for several years.

On the website billyjack.com, it says that there was a new film coming out called Billy Jack's crusade, but the website does'nt seem to get updated very much because I think the film was going to be released last year(going by the website). Maybe Tom got sick, I think he did have a type of cancer a year or two ago.

I vividly recall "The Return of Billy Jack" being filmed around 1985. At the time I was a security guard in an office building whose tenants owned a local movie theater. They had press announcements in their offices for the film. Later comedienne Elaine Boosler was on David Letterman and responded to Dave's question about the movie by saying that she had a role in it, but filming was halted when the star (Tom Laughlin)was injured during a fight scene (I believe she may have mentioned a broken bottle). I've also in the last 2 years seen ads intended for the movie on the Net---they were cut-and-paste jobs with the well-known pose (from the posters for "Billy Jack") pictured against the New York City skyline. 2 or 3 years ago Hollywood bigwigs such as Danny DeVito and Keanu Reeves were showing interest in a new BJ project which might have been called "The Return of Billy Jack" but nothing ever came of it. Tom Laughlin, now in his 70s, did have a bout with cancer but the last I heard he's doing fine. Since the brief interest shown by Hollywood he has had to go to court to keep the Billy Jack name being ripped off by some European producers desperate to make a buck with a knock-off.

Laughlin has announced Billy Jack sequels on many occasions since the barely released "Goes to Washington", but none have actually appeared. "The Return of Billy Jack" began filming in the mid 80s but stopped when the producers ran out of money. A few years later Laughlin announced a new series of Billy Jack films to be made in Australia, but nothing ever came of it. Most recently there has been talk of both the Keanu Reeves remake and a sequel of sorts in which BJ interacts 'Forrest Gump" like with a contemporary set of characters. The description is on Laughlin's website...

I've read of a new one were Billy Jack fights, not just goes to, but fights Washington to impeach Bush and Cheney. It sounds like filmmaking gold.

I've been on BillyJack.com which has just been updated and it says the new movie is coming out this year called Billy Jack's Moral Revolution. It's going to be 2 part epic.

reply

If Keanu Reeves is going to be involved, shouldn't "Billy Jack's Moral Reloaded" come out before Revolution?

'Laughlin's website mentions plans to make another sequel, entitled Billy Jack's Moral Revolution which, according to the film's synopsis, hopes to "lead a nationwide protest march to force Bush and Cheney to give up Iraq as an oil colony and stop the endless flow of blood by getting the hated Americans out of Iraq immediately."'

I got an email from Tom on sunday! He said that the new movie will now be released next year(2007)there has been a lot of opposition to the film! If people want they invest $500(us)in the film! There is also a competion running for 20 ticket holders to win a free trip to the world premiere in LA and join Tom and Delores at a private dinner.

Tom had also said they to make film in Australia but because of tax reasons the project fell through. He said he loved the film the Man from Snowy River and that Sydney reminded him of San Francisco.

They are trying to raise the funds to make this movie. One of the ways they are doing this is the pre-sale of tickets to the 100 city simultaneous premiere of the film. If you figure that the largest auditorium in each of these cities is an average of 400 seats (500 might be realistic, but 400 is safer) that's 40,000 tickets at $35 per. So if this premiere sells out around the country, they've raised $1.4 million to help them make the movie. Even after you subtract the cost of promoting the premiere and flying 20 winners into L.A. for the big premiere gala, they will still have over a million in cash for filmmaking just from this one fundraiser alone.

Don't get me wrong, I think the world of the original "Billy Jack", I watched it again just the other night and it is as magical now as it was when I watched it in the theater in its original release. But the sequels do not live up to the original, and I doubt that whatever political statement Tom Laughlin wants to make with this latest sequel will result in a quality film being brought to the screen. He and Delores gave us a great film back then and I am thankful for it, I doubt anything they do now will do anything but suffer by comparison.
