One Tin Soldier-2 versions?

I heard there are two slightly different versions of this song? It's been a long time since I saw the movie, but I have a CD with the radio version. Are there two different versions, if so, what is the difference?

reply

It was recorded by 2 groups. Coven sings it in the movie but The Original Caste had a hit song with it. They sound very similar.

reply

OK, thanks. I thought they meant Coven did two different versions. At one point I had the versions by both groups.

reply

Yes I noticed the original song by Coven sounded different to the one played in the film, Helen Reddy also sung a version of it but I think it's been sung by that many people, I saw that when I was on Limewire, there were so many other artists with One Tin Soldier next to their names

"When Policemen break the law then there isn't any law just a fight for survival"

reply

Helen Reddy sang One Tin Soldier? I don't mean to offend any Helen Reddy fans out there, but I hope I don't hear that version.

reply

"Helen Reddy sang One Tin Soldier?"

Oh, the horror ... the horror . . .

reply

So did Cher

reply

Cher sang it on the Christmas Special with Sonny in 1974 (?) with an accompanying animated short of a knight going into battle to get the treasure and then of him riding away defeated.

reply

I had completely forgotten that, but now the memory came back clear as a bell. Thanks for the nostalgia hit!

reply

You'd beg to hear the Helen Reddy version, if the alternative was listening to this cover by Killdozer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fwecSVzeY0.

also teresa laughlin (tom laughlin's and delores taylor's daughter-carol in the movies) sang it for billy jack goes to washington

I know this is a bit after the fact but I thought you would like to know why you heard there were two slightly different versions of this song by Coven... the version heard in the movie was sung by Jinx Dawson only, but she asked that her band, Coven, be credited as the artist... later, when Coven used the song on one of their albums, the band was obliged to re-record the song rather than use Jinx's version... so yes, the two versions do sound different because one includes the entire band.

reply

Thanks Shadows, I had a feeling that was the reason. Often movie versions are done earlier and when the movie becomes a hit they often re-record a song.

In my opinion they butchered the song "The Morning After" when they got Maureen McGovern to record it. That song sounded better as a soft ballad than some overproduced mess.

You mean like how "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head", which came from the movie "Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid"? B.J. Thomas had a horrendous case of laryngitis when he recorded the song for the film.
