Bernard and his Vette

Whenever we go down memory lane about this movie, my friend always says about the scene where Billy Jacks makes Bernard drive his Corvette into the lake: "Why didn't he just drive off?"

reply

Because he was a coward.

Ahhh, Was hoping this was going to be a thread about what a sweet Vette that was...

reply

The Vette was nice, but as I remember I laughed when Bernard's dad said, 'You just drove a brand new $2500 car into the lake?'

Mrs. Leverlilly: But that's a priceless Steinway!

Clouseau: Not anymore!

He says it's a $6k car

reply

I believe that Bernard's father said that it was a $6,000.00 car.

I almost wish that Billy Jack had dislocated Bernard's elbow instead of making him drive his car into the lake, because being made to drive his car into the lake clearly inflamed Bernard and pissed him off even more, because the car represented Bernardo's ego. if one gets the drift.

Dislocating Bernard's elbow, on the other hand, would've more than likely disabled Bernard and prevented him from doing any more damage than he'd already done.

I'll also add that physically disabling Bernard would've been far better than what Billy Jack ended up doing to him in the end, anyhow....killing him.

friendoffilm. I don't know how old you are. But; you had to live in that era to fully understand it. I did.

Take my word, mark-55061: I did live during that era, so I do understand it. The "don't fight back and stand up to bullies" backfired in a really bad way, which is why the attitudes have turned, if one gets the drift.
