In the sheep herder lynching scene Jake tells him to take the sheep 200 miles south to "Bar MC."
What the heck is Bar MC?
It was the recognizable sign of the McCandles ranch. It would have been the brand that would have been found on all the McCandles cattle, no doubt consisting of a bar and the letters M and C, all connected together as the brand would have been a single piece of iron. "Bar MC" would have the shorthand way to describe its appearance, which everyone in ranching country would have understood.
