Deleted Scenes
I get the feeling that this movie may have had scenes deleted due to it being quite violent can anyone shed some light on this.

share"Big Jake" was made shortly after the ultra-violent Western "The Wild Bunch" (1969) and was one of a few late John Wayne pictures that were more bloody and violent than any he had made before. "The Cowboys" "Cahill, US Marshal," and "The Shootist" are pretty violent, too.
Often, when shown on TV, violent scenes are cut from "Big Jake."
However, even in the violent, uncut original, a lot of violence is NOT shown on screen, such as the murder of several characters with a machete; they fall below the frame line and the killer chops down where we can't see the victims being killed.
What the HELL, i've seen private ryan and braveheart and this one is the most violent G movie i've ever seen.
shareI just finished watching it again and agree, the most violent parts are off-screen. this allows you imagination to tell you what is going on. The same thing happens in "Liberty Valance", when Lee Marvin whips Jimmy Stewart towards the beginning of the movie.
