John Fain

Could he have been Paladin gone bad? After all Paladin would have been about this age since that show was based in the late 1870s.

Richard Boone plays an outstanding Villain;

One of my all time favorite villains. The "...your fault, my fault, nobodies fault..." matches any moment in film history for me. I've seen it 100 times, and it's still incendiary. The tension is like nitroglycerin. And I genuinely believed both those men were tough and dangerous.

An under-rated masterpiece of a movie, and one of Richard Boone's finest roles.

No. Paladin had PLENTY of chances to "go bad" during the run of the series- chances with bigger pay-offs that $500,000 split 8 ways. It's waaay too big a stretch for me to think Paladin could come down in the world so much that an eighth share of $500,000 could tempt him. Plus, in the synopsis of Fain's career there are experiences that don't line up with what we know about Paladin. Finally, the age of Fain does NOT match up with the projected age of Paladin in 1909. Assuming Paladin's age in 1876 to be around 40 (Richard Boone was 40 in 1957), Paladin would have been about 73 in 1909. Fain looks to be around 55 or so- a FAR cry from 73 years old. No, Fain was not Paladin.

Paladin was a pretty good dude.

John Fain was a mean sonofabitch.
