Sequel to The Comancheros??

This may be a dumb question, but I was just watching a few minutes of "The Comancheros" and realized John Wayne's character in that film is also named Jake and in one scene someone even refers to him as Big Jake. Is he playing the same character in both films, or did they just re-use the name Jake?

Not a sequel. He was Jake Cutter in "The Comancheros." He is Jacob McCandles here.

However, "Big Jake" was filmed as "The Million Dollar Kidnapping" and they decided they needed a more Westernized title. Maybe Wayne remembered that name -- and this story has a "Big Jake" AND a "Little Jake."

The John Wayne characters have different last names so it is not a sequel. Plus The Commancheros takes place in the mid 1840s before Texas is a state and Big Jake takes place during the early 1900s.

Plus according to one of the bios of Duke, his family often called Duke "Big Jake" as a nickname at home. Don't know if this was before or after this film tho-

If I was going to see this as a sequel to anything, I would guess "McLintock." It would flow as if the grandson was from the daughter in McLintock, and the couple (same actors) had been apart for 18 years. Different characters of course, but it would be pretty seemless if they had wanted to do it that way.
