Who is the father of Little Jake?

I watched this movie again last might (for the umpteenth time) and it occurred to me that they don't really reveal who is the father of little Jake. According to the movie, Big Jake left the family ten years prior when Patrick Wayne's character was only 16 y.o. Patrick Wayne is supposed to be the oldest of the sons and would've been 18 y.o. when Little Jake was born. However, he never refers to Little Jake as his son, (and his womanizing would imply that there is no wife). The other two sons (played by Bobby Vinton and Christopher Mitchum) would've been too young to have an 8 y.o. child. Just one of those head-scratchers.

Yes she says to him "Jacob I called you because your grandson has been kidnapped. You didn't know you had a grandson? You do by your son Jeffery and Jeffery has been badly wounded by the kidnappers." Jeeffery was the one in bed at the beging who was shot in the attack at the ranch.

Ever notice how Bobby Vinton's stunt man skewers his chest on that upright post when he falls through the upstairs railing? It didn't break away like it should've, and boy does that look like it hurts.

I didn't notice it until I saw your post. You're right. Looks PAINFUL. Talk about earning your paycheck the hard way.

Most skeptics are terrified it's all real and are desperate to prove otherwise.

John Agar's looked phony and BTW WHERE was the boy's mother

Even as late as 1909 people died of things like Cholera. there was also the issues of Influenza. That would surely explain the absence of a spouse in almost any story of the period, and location.

That's a fact but they should have said "something"
I know of a case from the 1990s where a woman (who we used to know) died in child birth. Pretty rare these days.

In many cultures, particularly of that era, people out of respect did not speak of the dead, especially if the death occurred in an especially tragic or rare (sometimes considered dishonorable) manner ( such as suicide).

True no disagreement there however for the sake of the plot something should have been said for our benefit.
Just like in AIRPORT the air hostess should have known the co-pilot goes on
Oxygen when the other pilot leaves the cabin, however they show Dean telling her for OUR benefit

Women died in childbirth at an alarming rate before the 20th Century. In some areas it was as high as 40%.

Recently a woman died from complications of childbirth in Ireland. A termination would have saved her life. She knew her fetus was dying and couldn't be saved; so did the doctors. They did nothing and she died from infection. It was a wanted child.

She's dead for no reason.

'Or not.'
