We've discussed this before, but...
At the beginning of the film, after the "Fain gang" is introduced, and the shooting starts, we have a total of NINE bad guys...Then, the older of the DeVries brothers "Walt," comes riding across the front porch of the house after seeing Jeffery McCandles (Bobby Vinton), who was shot INSIDE the house by John Fain (chillingly and effectively portrayed by Richard Boone) come stumbling out.
As Walt speeds by on his horse, Jeffery blows him away at a range of about 1.5 feet...After the carnage, the ransom note is given to Martha McCandles (Maureen O'Hara), and the baddies go riding off.
When they ride across the Rio Bravo into Mexico, there are only SEVEN of them present, and that's the number I counted leaving the ranch. Young Billy DeVries is missing, but there isn't a single shot (pardon the pun) showing what happened to him...
When the gang ambushes the Texas Rangers at the narrow pass in the canyons, he's not there, either.
What happened to Young Billy?!
Maureen O'Hara, and Harry Carey, Jr. (Pop Dawson in the movie) have both stated many times that several scenes were shot that NEVER made it into the final cut. One has to wonder what the editor was thinking as he "cut" this film...
