Jake spits and James falls?

At the first campfire scene Jake spits and then James falls? He got hit with buckshot but getting spit on knocks him over?

just watched it and he starts to take a step toward Jake and then falls. Probably took that step wrong and aggravated the leg.

My husband said he was trying to dodge the spit & his leg gave out.
