Interesting and Believable until....

The scene where the posse with the car and cycle go to ambush the kidnappers. Lame dialogue billboarding motives and stilted line readings left me changing the channel. Plus.. the Wayne boys are poor actors in this.

What do you think I asked you here for? Company?!?!?!?

I guess you're right as far as the cheezy dialog goes. Heck, I know you're right.

This movie reminds me of some other things so I have a soft spot 'cause of that.
Anyway, I hope you can overlook all of its mistakes (I know that there's a bunch) and enjoy the show in spite of them.

Oh, I do Eddys... but it wasn't keeping me raptured... my fave moment was when they showed Jake the kidnapped boy's hat. Quite the face he made.

I remember watching it in the theater as a 20 year old, about the age of Michael in the movie. And I thought it was so cool that Michael rode that motorcycle and managed to keep some of the men from shooting.

Patrick Wayne was so handsome too. But the acting was definitely stiff in places.
Michael was played by Chris Mitchum and boy did he look like his father.

I loved the movie then and watch it every few years on TCM.

You should have stuck with it.

The journey to the border oil town, and the final showdown with John Wayne vs. Richard Boone, rocked.

The look on Richard Boone's face when he opens the chest, and the lines John Wayne whispers to him, are classic and worth the wait.

Remember this is a 1971 Western. No cussing or nekked people. Violence was ok. If this were done today (God forbid some a-hole remakes it) the dialogue would be full of obscenities for sure. The dog would not be killed. PETA would crap themselves over a scene like that.

Remember Rabbit Ears with tin foil?

Aren't you forgetting 1969's "The Wild Bunch?" Boobs and bad language everywhere!!

By 1971, there were bad words and boob shots all over the prairie...just not in a John Wayne movie.
