definitely one of my favorite guilty pleasures. The characters and their actions are so wrong and sick, but I am seduced each time I watch the movie.
shareOne of my faves, too! It's very atypical Eastwood: sort of Gothic/Civil War. I think this film is so striking and different. Geraldine Page and Elizabeth Hartman are great in this, too. 8/10

Hear hear!!! Oh, I love love love this film, it's fantastic. I 'm surprised it's only got 7.1. Someone wrote in one of the reviews for this that he's nasty, but the women and girls are nastier, and everyone's nastiness increases throughout the film, but I don't think it's as simple as that. It's about changes in one's behaviour under duress, about the things you find yourself forced to do to survive, so many themes and layers. I could write an essay about it if only I could be arsed. But I love it. And as a plus point, Clint, despite playing a complete barsteward (well, almost - I think he genuinely felt bad about killing Randolph; despite all his actions he was drunk, maimed, furious and in agony after all), is breathtakingly, knee-weakeningly handsome. :-) *sigh*
I've seen it again for the second time on ITV1 and it's such an enigma of a film.
I agree - Clint really acted well in this, and he was really handsome too! He was such a flirt and a manipulator.
