Visual quote when 'El Presidente' gets shot?

“Near the start there is a scene where 'El Presidente' is shot, which is done as a montage of closeups of the gun, the guy clutching his heart etc. Looks to me like Woody Allen is quoting something here; but what?”

reply

If you mean the scene where we also see a cradle falling down the steps, it's from the famous scene of the Odessa steps from "Battleship Potemkin".
Brian De Palma also referenced this scene in "The Untouchables".

that's not even remotely what was asked, but thanks for showing off all the same.

What the $%*& is a Chinese Downhill?!?

Maybe I'm mistaken but I still honestly think that what I wrote above was the answer to what he was asking, and anyway, how exactly am I showing off?
What is the point of showing off to people you are never going to meet in real life anyway?
And, by the way, do YOU have anything relevant to say that may help answer his question?

I didn't think so.

reply

Maybe you weren't showing off, but he meant a scene after the start of a film, not in the middle of it, when the 'battle' occurs and the reference to Potemkin is placed
