operating the controls in the lower lab where the animals were?
Are you telling me that they all knew what to do? NO! The doctor certainly had not read any of the paperwork.
The woman didn't even want to be there, she was a substitute at the last minute.
The only one who could operate those arms was Arthur Hill's character and when exactly did he learn any of that? That machinery takes practice.
Again, things in a movie that you just say..."huh? That's not right."
Where to begin?
1) Yes, they all knew what to do. All of them, except Hall, were scientists. Biologists, in fact, who understood lab equipment and how to use it. Sure, maybe not all of them were able to use the Hands, but enough of them were.
2) Dr. Stone was the one who basically proposed Wildfire, and I presume he supervised its construction. So yes, he would've had ample opportunity to practice with the Hands. Also, those things, while uncommon, are found in a lot of labs where direct human contact is controlled. Stone probably already had some experience using them.
3) Yes, Dr. Leavitt didn't want to be there. So what? Would you want to be there? Especially if you know that in order to get down to Level 5 you would have to go through a process that decontaminates you as much as possible. I don't know if I would've enjoyed the Xenon Exposure, and I certainly would not have liked the Body Analyzer. So I do not blame Leavitt or anyone else who doesn't relish the idea of getting one hell of an anal exam.
4) The point of Dr. Hall was that they needed an MD, and they needed an Odd Man who was single to give the key to in the event of an inadvertent breach of quarantine. This was so that it would come down to him to either deactivate the bomb, or to let it go lest some horrible organism got loose.
