The noises made me turn it off

Holy mother, these noises are just too annoying and completely out of context. They do not support the scenes and they are just random.

Had to turn it off after 12 minutes.

perhaps if you'd seen it in it's original run, you'd have gotten the "futuristic" or ahead of it's time vibe from it. Computers and such were up and coming around that time.

Also, don't watch The Andromeda Strain if those noises got to you.

Great pont Moosefeathers. I also love Andromeda Strain. Hopefully there will be a Blu version of Andromeda Strain soon.

Agreed. But, computers (and surveillance technology) weren't just "up and coming", they were genuinely feared by the average man & woman, because they were so mysterious (unlike now when they are ubiquitous).

reply

The noises do become less prominent & lower volume through the film but they are there throughout.

You didn't miss much pretty dire film.

Since radios and surveillence equipment in general are part of this so-called "context", the soundwave noise is very much justified.

It made me think of Jon Pertwee era Doctor Who. Certainly not annoying enough to stop the movie, but not anything like modern now. It's interesting to think of a time when it was cutting-edge, though. A little before my time.

No problem for me I was already running mainframe computers for 2 yrs at that point
