Vulnavia !!

She doesn't talk much but...isn't she one of the most delightful girls shot on film ever ???

You're not a hero ... unless you die

reply

Yes she is. :)

Too bad she wasn't in the sequel...

reply

Both women who played Vulnavia were both very beautiful and played their roles well.

Beautiful . . . doesn't talk much. . . and does whatever you tell her to with extreme loyalty . . . the PERFECT girl.

And girls, don't get mad at me. You'd say the exact same about the perfect man and you know it.

The original script had it she was another clockwork device of Phibes that looked human, but the unfilmed script for the third movie revealed she was the goddess Athena who had decided to aid Phibes as he was a disciple of hers.

I don't know, she SURE screamed like a human being when she got hit in the face with the acid meant for Joseph Cotten's son. I believe THAT ("Aaaaaaahhh!") was her ONLY line of dialogue in the whole movie. Maybe some intrepid movie producer ought to dust off that unfilmed script for the third movie, and let Christopher Lee give it a read. Let's see, WHO would make a GREAT "Vulnavia," today? Elizabeth Hurley? Nah, too old. Kate Beckinsale? Nah, STILL too old. ANYBODY, out there, have ANY suggestions?

I'm the bad guy? How'd that happen?

I'm not too sure who would be a good Vulnavia today. I'm tempted to say Danielle Harris, but that's only my fanboy crush on her coming up. Knowing our luck if the third one is made, or worse, a remake, it would probably end up going to Paris Hilton or someone like that.

BTW, for anyone interested I posted the film treatment of the third one under VP's profile, the topic was "third phibes films."

If the decision comes down to either casting Paris Hilton as "Vulnavia," OR burning the script, I opt for burning the script. YUCH!!! I promise to give the film treatment a read, though. I REALLY think a third entry in the "Dr. Phibes" series is in order. Thanks for your post, luke bannon!

I would certainly have no objection to having a movie where acid is poured on Paris Hilton's face. Though, I would prefer a documentary

reply

I think Natalie Portman might be really good as vulnavia, she has that kind of beautiful but mysterious look. but i have no idea who cd play doctor phibes himself in remake...and tbh i dont realy think a remake is neccessay, would be really hard to improve on the original film!

reply

Lindsay Lohan!!

reply

Summer Glau would be great.

reply

Liz Hurley, too old? Well, as far as Danielle goes, Vulnavia in the movie didn't look exactly like a teeny bopper either! I'll take Liz. That woman is gorgeous!
What's your age requirement for the character anyway? Please, somebody older than 15-20 yrs.!

reply

Liz Hurley turned the BIG 4-0, on June 10th, 2005. Both "Vulnavia's" from the "Dr. Phibes" movies,
Virginia North and Valli Kemp, were probably in their mid-twenties at the time of filming. IMDb
DOESN'T list their birthdates. How 'bout we get Liz to play the Caroline Munro part - Phibes'
deceased wife, instead? That way, ALL Liz has to do is hold her breath for close-ups, and look pretty in death. As you most likely know, Liz runs the acting gamut from A to B! As for "Vulnavia,"
acting ability is NOT a requirement, either: Neither of them spoke a word of dialogue. Therefore,
CAST the reigning Miss Great Britain for the role!!

Milan kinks is gorgeous and has a similar look, sick why but she popped in my head for this and normally I wouldn't think of her. I think shed be a great Victoria or vulnavia

reply

Darn auto correct! MILA KUNIS! Ugh stupid ipad

"A girl? Was she tall, attractive, hardly speaks a word? Now I'm very interested in her..."

According to the novel, Vulnavia was very much human -no backstory given- who "died as she had lived, with never a word passing her lips."

Incidentally, in the novel, Vulnavia commits suicide after the police break in by stabbing herself with "a small, slender dagger, hidden among the keys" of Phibes organ.

"If you don't know the answer -change the question."

reply

I also read that in the sequel that it was supposed to be a different female character helping Phibes, but then (allegedly) the studio told them to change the name back to Vulnavia.

Quite the fetching girl (both of them) - too bad her name sounds like one of those fictional European countries.

reply

didnt she get burnt with acid? and was she in the second film. Angelina Jolie would be a good vulnavia and ex hubby billy bob thorton would be a good dr phibes or maybe jennifer aniston could be vulnavia and they could burn brad pit with acid lol.

eat well stay fit die anyway

reply

vulnavia rules.

reply

I have been a huge fan of this film since I saw it in a theater when it first came out in the early 1970s. After all these years- Vulnavia still stands out as the very best thing in this film. Vulnavia rules.

reply

If you wanted to cast a new Vulnavia I think you'd have to go for an unknown...maybe a dancer...someone who could move with grace.

reply

I would like to volunteer for the role of Vulnavia! It's a shame I can't waltz around a ballroom with Vincent Price. I wouldn't want it to be remade anyway; they'd try to update it and make Phibes younger or something and they'd screw it up. Besides I don't think a movie could be made today with the same effortless charm and carefreeness that isn't constrained by how big the special effects budget is.

reply

I love the way she looks at the camera when Phibes is boiling up his brussel sprouts.

reply

If another movie was made (and I think whoever said Christopher Lee as Phibes has something there ...) Vulnavia would probably be played by some up and coming super model.

reply

I'm an artist and whenever I cant think of a name foe a painting / drawing ,I call it Vulnavia-always have.

I certainly liked the first Vulnavia better than the second.
She seemed to glide more than the second. What is Virginia North's history. I don't remember seeing her in any more movies.
The second Valli Kemp was equally as beautiful but seemed to me a little choppy in her manner like she was posing a little more. I had read that a critic said she watched the camera more but it seemed they both did that.
Does anyone have any ideas for Phbes rises again 2

reply

I recently bought a double DVD set of the two 1960s 'Bulldog Drummond' movies - Deadlier Than The Male and Some Girls Do - simply because Virginia North appears in both of them.

I think the sheer number of "Deleted" posts on the "Vulnavia!!" thread is a tribute to her allure.
