Casting Suggestions For Another Sequel to 'Dr. Phibes'

If YOU were a movie producer, and wanted to do a sequel to the first two "Dr. Phibes" movies, WHO
would YOU cast in the lead roles? As for me, Christopher Lee is the ONLY logical choice to play
"Dr. Phibes." As for "Vulnavia," I'd go for a younger version of Elizabeth Hurley. Hey, it's NOT like she HAS to speak any dialogue! I'm open to suggestions.

Well, if technology could bring Lawrence Oliver back for sky captain and reconstruct Oliver Reed for Gladiator, I guess it can be used to bring Vincent back. However, I am tempted to say Geoffry Rush (I probably misspelt his name). I think he has that very theatrical style of acting that would suit Phibes.

And apart from that my mind draws a blank at anyone else. Apart from Vulnavia Waverly and Trout would be there in some part, and I can't think of anyone who could fill their shoes.

Geoffrey Rush TRIED to fill the Master's shoes (Vincent Price) in the DREADFUL "House on Haunted Hill" re-make. He EVEN tried the pencil-thin moustache that Vinny favored, but he failed to pull it off. However, Geoffrey Rush was BRILLIANT in "Pirates of the Caribbean." So, yeah, I'd cast Geoffrey as "Phibes." However, he'd HAVE to put his own spin on the part, and NOT copy Vinny's take on it. Gee, casting "Vulnavia" is TOUGH, though! THANKS for ANOTHER nice post, luke bannon.

get some one who can do a good vocal impersonation of Price. get Bob Dylan to sit there and make wierd faces and doing that wierd talking throat thingie and have the voice playing. Not like you'd need to worry about his mouth synching up or anything.

Id love to see Crispen Glover as Phibes and I think Thora Birch would be the perfect Vulnavia

reply

Not sure who I would have play Phibes, but Victoria in her glass coffin should be Emily Booth, while Rachel Grant would make a great Vulnavia.

reply

Emily Booth as Victoria sounds good. I've been thinking a little bit more about this. I thought maybe Monica Bellucci would be good as Vulnavia. And though he may be too old, for some reason Ian Richardson came to mind as Phibes.

They don't have that classic look wouldn't work too modern looking

Idk about phibes, but like I said on another post MILA KUNIS would be a perry vulnavia

The only other actor I've ever been able to see as Phibes is Alan Rickman.

My dream sequel would have Phibes pitted against Fu Manchu. Most of Sax Rohmer's original novels about Fu Manchu and the subsequent films based upon them were set in the 1920s, the same period as the Phibes movies, so it would be an ideal match. (It's a shame that Harry Alan Towers, who produced five films starring Christopher Lee as Fu Manchu in the late Sixties/early Seventies, never got on the phone to American International Pictures to arrange a co-production depicting Lee's Fu Manchu versus Vincent Price's Phibes. Ah, what might have been...)
If a Dr. Phibes vs Fu Manchu movie were to be made today, here are my casting suggestions;

The Protagonists
Dr. Anton Phibes: Alan Rickman
Dr. Fu Manchu: Anthony Wong Chau-Sang or John Lone

The Girl
Vulnavia: Pippa Black or Felicity Jones or Claire Foy

The Law
Inspector Trout: Eddie Izzard or David Tennant or Simon Pegg or Martin Freeman
Superintendent Waverley: Jim Broadbent or Sir Ben Kingsley

Interested Parties
Sir Denis Nayland Smith: Richard E. Grant or Matthew Macfadyen
Dr. Petrie: Sir Ben Kingsley or David Suchet or Eddie Marsan
Fah Lo See/Lin Tang: Francoise Yip or Ziyi Zhang or Kelly Hu or Natassia Malthe
Victoria Phibes: Elizabeth Hurley or Kelly Brook
