Tim Burton

He should make the third installment.

I.. For one am GLAD you said "installment", rather then "remake." Everybody in Hollywood is remake crazy! This film was GREAT! A nice balance of scary & funny! Like slapstick "Airplane" funny! The "unscrewing" of the guy was a laugh riot! And I agree that Burton should do this... As Tim has never made it a secret of his near worship of Price. I went to see Tim Burton's art exhibit at the LACMA last year, and and there were some Vincent Price memorabilia.

Price liked the character very much and wanted to do the third " -- but, they'd better hurry!" he is quoted saying around 1989. Tim Burton is the only man, I believe, that could pull it off and I have said so for many years on different pages.

Burton brought "Bela Lugosi" back to the screen and while this might be trickier, there are more tricks today in the cinematic bag than even then. Besides, Phibes actually "wore" a mask and his actual face, as you know, was disfigured, his lips did not move when he spoke in his metallic voice in clipped phrases.

A good mime or mimes could ape his distinctive ticks and flourishes.

Most importantly, the story would really carry the day. Burton could bring the dark humor -- no one would argue that -- but bring the wildly romantic and horrorific tale to an epic and satisfying conclusion.

I think it would stretch Mr. Burton because he knows he would be walking a tightrope.

No, remake. Burton has done remakes. This would be something new for him. All the things he's don before would culminate in the third installment, of which there were several screenplays to choose from or he could bring about his own vision.

A fitting end to the abominable Dr. Phibes saga.

I appreciate your response and enthusiasm, kfipaul.

but please don't put Depp as Phibes. He would be great as one of the victims. I see him in the Terry Thomas role.

Yes, I agree. At best a cameo role if Depp (a fine actor) was in such a thing at all.

Finding a replacement for the great Vincent Price would be a tough call. Certainly a mask on a mask as in the original Phibes movies would help, but Price had a certain way of moving.

His voice, metallic or not, would also be hard to duplicate.

Thanks for the post.

I'm wondering what's going on with this supposed "remake" I see articles on the net about it from 2013. Seen one recent article talking about it, supposed to star Depp & Malcolm McDowell. But in their respective IMDB pages, this is not mentioned at all. So what the hell IS going on?

Some things take so long. Scheduling conflicts, production funds cut or lost due to new leadership at studio, loss of interest, new trends, stuff like that. Who knows? Maybe never.

Thanks for posting Jeepster7. If you hear anything new, please share. Thanks, again.
