Never thought Richard Attenborough could be so creepy


I've got Brighton Rock so I know he is good as a villain but this went beyond that. Evil Santa.

Yes, I always thought he was exceptionally good as Christie, and looked a great deal like him. I remember seeing the Christie waxwork at Madame Tussauds in the Chamber of Horrors years ago, and the likeness was spot on. I imagine the real Christie came across in the same way - outwardly very helpful, eager to please, but really like a spider drawing in his prey. The whole case history still shocks.

People who had gone to see Seance on a Wet Afternoon a few years before 10 Rillington Place had a hint of Attenborough's ability to brilliantly play the badguy, too. A very different chracter than Christy, certainly, but hardly an innocent one...

I must have watched this film 3 or 4 times, the execution scenes have always been deleted here on u.k. t.v. Anyone know why? They've screened far worse in recent years!
