DORIS DAY AS SALLY?

She and Rock Hudson had made several movies together and were good friends in real life.
In fact, Rock's last public appearance was on a program where Doris was raising money for animal charities.

And Doris was closer in age to Rock; Susan Saint James looked more like a child wife--or a trophy bride.
Last of all, Doris was a MUCH better actress!

I apologize if this had been discussed before; it's been years since I visited this site.

This was 1971, the height of the hippie generation. Rock may have been dashing (he was), but I'm sure to sell the show to a younger audience they needed a youth-generation hook, and SSJ fit that bill fer sure.

And that's pretty much what makes this show so dated.
IMO, with Doris, it would be a classic.

I think SSJ was generally a lousy actress, although I admit she was good in KATE & ALLIE.
Maybe the sitcom was her true forte.

Yeah, most of those types of 70s-80s series are badly dated. I used to love Hart to Hart - now, it's painful to watch. Same with Police Woman: Angie D was in her 40s when she was the 'hot babe' who ran around carrying her purse (and I think her legs were too skinny). For me, The Streets of San Francisco still holds up, but maybe that's because I fell in love with San Francisco watching it ...
