how many episodes were there in the last season?

i think i've been through the run now, before the series started back from the beginning, at the last "new"/"unwatched" episodes for me, the intro was totally changed, (it had changed before bits here and there, but this was an entirely diffrent intro.)
not very many episodes i saw being like that, so i was wondering, were there fewer episodes in the last season perhaps? thanks.
