Continuity error in Deadly conspiracy??

I know this board gets about 3 posts per year and I"ll probably be an old man before somebody actually reads this, but what was the deal with this 2 parter? At the end of this episode there was this whole scene where the guy's assistant gets shot. but then when the 2nd part began it was like they changed the whole scene and they had the secretary make the attempt on the guy's life. It was confusing

Wow, you're not the only one, I always thought of that myself. Have you heard that they're remaking this show in 2010 with John Scurti? It's going to be cool, but I just hope he can pull it off.

reply

Glad to hear I'm not the only one that was confused by that. It kinda took a little something away from what was otherwise a great 2 parter. I spent the second half of the episode totally confused. I hadn't heard about the remake. I generally don't like when stuff is remade because it always falls flat. But I guess we'll see

There is also a copy of this story as a single Cannon episode. Everything is rushed at the end. Sharon Acker and Diana Douglas have a couple of minutes screen time and the latter isn't revealed as a baddie at all. The Murray Hamilton character survives whereas I think he dies in the two-parter.

reply

I have 2 different sources of part 1 and they're both the same unfortunately. Why would they create such confusion like that. I spent the entire part 2 of the episode confused as hell

reply

Beats me! All I know is that there are many plot holes in the series and they should have filled those holes especially for a finale! Although, they seemed to have changed writers in the past.

The only other thing that really stands out for me was when somebody blew up his appartment and in the next episode, we saw him in his appartment and it looked just like it did before. But I could be wrong. Maybe he did get a different appartment.

The Deadly Conspiracy originaly ran as a 2 hour program( not sure if both parts were on 1 night). Cannon Episode #98 was Part 1 and Baraby Jones Episode #62 was part 2. For tv syndication purposes, the Cannon episode was reredited so that it could be shown as a stand alone episode in syndication, since Barnaby Jones was a seperate show to syndicate part 2 would not be a part of Cannon syndication. Hence the need to reedit the Cannon episode as a stand alone episode. Obviously, Quinn Martin had shot the extra footage at the time the episode was shot knowing it would be needed in syndication. Barnaby Jones Episode 62 The Deadly Conspiracy is not available for US syndication. Fortunately, Barnaby Jones #62 was shown in England. They should not have cut the Tonight's Episode part from the credits.

Take Care!

Where are you getting your episode numbers and titles? There is no episode #62 of Barnaby Jones. The episode numbers started over at #'s 1 through 24 each season. Furthermore, there is no Jones episode entitled "The Deadly Conspiracy". The episode in question is #1 of season 1, entitled "Requiem For A Son".

Most skeptics are terrified it's all real and are desperate to prove otherwise.

Television series are commonly listed by episode number. Usually each episode is listed in order of air date. Since each episode has a number, multiple seasons are given a number; ie Cannon Season 2 Episode #1 would be Cannon Episode 25, Cannon Season 2 Episode 24 would be Cannon Episode #48, etc. Each episode is given a chronological number The first episode of Barnaby Jones was Requirem For A Son and William Conrad was A Special Guest Star playing Cannon. Conrad was in 1 other Barnaby Jones episode again playing Cannon. This was the 1st episode of Barnaby Jones Season 4, which would make it Barnaby Jones Episode #62 The Deadly Conspiracy. Part 1 Of The Deadly Conspiracy was Cannon Episode #98, and Part 2 was Barnaby Jones Episode #62. Take Care!

The syndicated version of the 2-parter had Charles Durning's slugging Murray Hamilton and tossing him through the window, only to have MH rescued by Jones and Cannon. In the original Cannon episode it was Diana Douglas who turned out to be a physical fitness expert, very strong, and who beat the crap out of Murray Hamilton, picked him up with both arms, and tossed him through the window, having him fall about 30 stories to his death. She then faked being terrified of it all, immediately screaming. It was quite a shocker, I remember it vividly and wish that the 2-part Cannon/Barnaby Jones sequence would be shown as it originally aired. If you never saw that scene then you'd gulp.

Is this the episode where Sharon Acker plays an investigative reporter who is assassinated by Charles Durning? Durning poses as a whistleblower enticing Sharon Acker with supposed evidence on the corrupt businessman, Barry Sullivan she is investigating. Gaining entry into her apartment for the purpose of showing her the evidence, Durning attacks and kills Acker. Durning then calls for a delivery of whiskey, scotch or gin. When the delivery man shows up, Durning knocks him unconscious and pours the alcohol over the unconscious man. More, Durning uses Ackers fingers to inflict scratches on the unconscious deliveryman's face. Later on the unfortunate delivery man is charged with assault, rape, and murder. That's when Cannon steps in to prove the man innocent. You see, the delivery man was a recovering alcoholic who was taking anabudes, a medication designed to induce nausea if the taker later consumed alcohol. There was no way he could have drunk alcohol that night and have been functional.

reply

Yes, that was the episode, the first part of a two-part Cannon/Barnaby Jones sequence.
