poor picture quality on the DVD
Just purchased the cannon volume one on dvd but whats with the grainy quality of the film? Why go to the trouble of releasing a DVD if your not going to restore the quality of the print?

They probably don't think they are going to make a lot from this, so can't be bothered to spend a lot of money trying to restore it.

How's the color?I can tolerate some debris in the picture. But if there's an excess of it and the color is bland, then I don't want it.I want this show in my dvd collection for a couple of reasons.1)I was only 1 year old when "Cannon" debuted, but do have a vague memory of watching some of the last season episodes.2)I've grown quite fond of '70's cop/detective shows. So,if the picture quality isn't annoyingly bad,I'll take it.Hopefully sales of this volume prove to be strong enough to continue future releases.

I don't think the picture quality is that bad at all. A little grainy perhaps, but I'm not at all convinced that can always be fixed. Doesn't it all depend on the source material they are working with? Anyhow, like I said it's not that bad and the color is fine. My guess is you would find it well worth getting.
shareThanks for the response.I do realize that some of the original prints of some shows can be too dirty to clean up perfectly. Also,I just wanted to know that whoever produced this release took the time to restore it as best as possible. As long as I know that much,I'll pick it up along with Pt.2 when it is released.

One thing that a lot of people don't realize is, it's very expensive to "upgrade" old TV programs and movies. A lot of times, these shows aren't being released by big companies with big budgets, and even when they are, sometimes the expenses are considered to be greater than what they expect the demand for the videos to be.
I didn't really notice a problem with season 1, but season 2, (released by
CBS), is fairly grainy. The prints seem a little darker, too. As others
have said, though, nobody got rich putting these shows on dvd, and I'm
just glad they're available.

The first two seasons of Cannon on DVD are not from 35mm film prints, but from videotape. Occaisionally there are video drop outs, white static and sour sound from poor tape tracking, which occurred during the transfer to disc.
shareI'd give anything to see this on British television again. If anybody thinks of anything I'd like to hear it.
