The clothes fascism wears change over time. Fascism is generally a product of conformity. In 1972, the average working class white man probably clung to the ancient tenets of bigotry. Today, the fashionable stance is "social justice," a movement that is neither social nor qualified to be associated with actual justice in any way. Archie being a conformist would adopt the rabid stance of an SJW. Meathead would still be a liberal, but in this day and age, liberals are accused of being nazis just as much as conservatives are, so Archie would be calling HIM a fascist, nazi, "white supremacist," "domestic terrorist," etc.

I watched the show when it was actually on the air. Read my post again and think about it a little more.

1. In 1972 the "average working class white man" voted for candidates that supported Civil Rights for blacks.

2. Bigotry is not equal to facism.

3. The bigotry of Archie, was Hollywood's view of the "average working class white man", not the reality of the time.

4. MEATHEAD today, if the show was shot today, would be a social justice warrior.

Sure.

1. By 1972 both parties platforms embraced Civil Rights. White Racists, of the type that hollywood assumed normal WWII era working class whites were, were by then, completely marginalized as they have been since. This is documented by the historical record.

2. Bigotry is not equal to fascism. This is a matter of normal dictionary definitions. What more evidence do you need?

3. The bigotry of Archie was Hollywoods view of the "average working class white man", not reality. This was based on my personal observations of the many working class white men I observed growing up. You will have to take my word for it.

4. MEATHEAD was a "man" who constantly disrespected and verbally attacked the man who was feeding and supporting Meathead, AND his wife. Today he was be the SJW. Archie was the man who worked hard physical labor on a daily basis to feed, his wife, and his child AND her unemployed husband. He obviously would NOT be the SJW.

There's a huge difference between being WWII Archie Bunker vs Baby Boomer Archie since values, history, lifestyle, culture and experiences are different between the two generations.

Archie would still be conservative, but a Reagan Republican instead of an Eisenhower one. He would have served in Vietnam instead of WWII. He might have fled from Queens to the Long Island suburbs as many conservative whites did. You're assuming racism no longer exists. Racist and sexist Archie would be happy on homogeneous Long Island with other like-minded folks.

BTW, I know many middle-aged white male conservatives who are similar to Archie in values.

Meathead would not be a liberal. He would be a progressive (not the same) campaigning for Bernie and AOC.

BTW, you have no true understanding of what Fascism is.

This person obviously has an agenda and it's quite easy to contort what most of us experience as being obvious into some other perception that is insidious and dangerous.
This borrows from the playbook where smart people point out societal concerns the privileged don't have to reckon with, and now malevolent forces want you to believe things that aren't true.
The result is we have someone like this OP making a ridiculous assertion with what appears to be a straight face, and it's just a Lie they think they can get away with.

Fascism hasn't changed all that much. There is a difference between ideology and political platforms. Fascism is an exclusive ideology and is alive and well. Liberalism is an inclusive ideology that embraced democracy, and gave us capitalism, individual liberty and equality under the law. Post Modernism is a new ideology that is a weird mix and seeks to replace individual rights with group or ethnic rights, they call themselves liberals but their goals are in opposition to liberalism. Archie Bunker was a Goldwater Republican, which no longer exists, they were all converted to American Conservatism which dropped the ruse of fiscal conservatism and small govt.
