Will it ever be available as a standalone title?

Because I really do not want to own Moon Zero Two. (Except in its MST3K form, of course!) What a random film to double-bill with WDRTE, a film I love and an Oscar-nominee, to boot (sure, just for the special effects, but really, who goes to a dinosaur movie for anything other than the dinosaurs?). The stop-motion work by Jim Danforth is among the finest ever committed to film, and while it lacks the character that Ray Harryhausen brought to his creations, in terms of sheer fluidity Danforth actually came out on top here.

ANYhow, tangent aside, is there anyone out there with any idea as to whether WDRTE will ever get its own DVD? (If anything, you'd think the studio would've be smart enough to make a Region 2 double-bill with "One Million Years B.C.", including the uncut versions of both films. I'm not sure about rights issues, but they're both Hammer, aren't they?)

reply

They're indeed both Hammer productions, but 20th Century Fox owns One Million Years B.C. while WDRTE is owned by Warner Brothers. WB obviously doesn't think that highly of WDRTE, given how long it took to finally get a DVD release, and then just tossing it out to the public on a double feature with zero promotion. It may get it's own release at some point, but i won't be surprised if it's the G rated version, because WB are seriously that clueless.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by Moon Zero Two, it wasn't a bad movie and certainly doesn't deserve a 3/10 rating. I gave it 6/10.

Maybe if the double feature DVd sells well they may release a standalone, hopefully R2 as well.

As for OMYBC: I don't understand why Warner owns the UK rights and Fox the rest. It's available on a Warner DVD in the UK (including some extras and I've heard it's uncut), but not in the US and also no here in the Netherlands. What's this all about?

reply

I don't think Fox thinks much of One Million Years B.C. either. What they have out on DVD is the US edited version and doesn't look as good as their old laserdisc transfer did, which was the complete UK version!
