I wrote a letter to Robin Hawdon
He said that the mountain scenes were filmed on Gran Canaria and the beach and sea scenes on Lanzarote -- both in the Canary Islands. He also said that while this obviously wasn't the greatest movie ever made, it's amazing how many people remember it, and remember it fondly. In closing, he mentioned that Disney almost made a film version of his book, "A Rustle in the Grass."
