DVD
Is there any chance of this fine movie coming out on DVD? I've always loved it and Steigers performance

Thanks I don't understand the region thing, I live in the US, Are the disks different if they come from Europe? What is Region 1,2,3---? I hate to appear stupid but I am in this regard.

The region coding system was introduced by the US Coporate movie industry in an attempt to control the release of their films by World regions.
There are actually 6 regions but can't immediately recall the details except that 1 is US, 2 is UK/Europe/Japan? and 5 is China...I stand to be corrected.
In the UK there are various DVD players available that are 'multi-region' and I'm sure that must be the case in the US. However most players can be 'hacked' to modify them to 'mr'
Suggest you do a Google search to get the URL's of specialist sites...I have recently lost my bookmark list so can't give one here.

Australia Region 4...its out here. Just bought it the other day!
shareIt is latety for rental in www.netflix.com
shareMulti-region DVD players aren't common but they are available; an internet search for them turned up the one I bought about three years ago; also MR players aren't that much more expensive than the standard U.S. Region 1-only players are. My MR player has allowed me to buy (most usually from Amazon.co.uk) and enjoy a rash of British (Region 2) discs which aren't available in the U.S. Also, often enough British film and DVD releases contain scenes and dialogue tracks - the latter is a common post-production technique applied because most Americans are stymied by various British English dialects and their vocabularies - that differ, sometime slightly, sometimes greatly, from their U.S. release versions; I find the British originals to be more satisfactory, more pleasing than their U.S. release versions. Be forewarned, however: British discs are often costlier than U.S. discs are, and the Amazon.co.uk shipping charges are also quite a bit stiffer than Amazon.com.us charges are.
One matter to be wary of in seeking an MR player is that many such players use software that causes the image edges to flicker irritatingly to the eye, rather like a ragged sawtooth edge in constant motion. It's advisable to ascertain before purchase that an MR player incorporates the better software which eliminates image edge flicker. Luckily, I learned of this in the search I made for my MR player which faultlessly plays Region 2 discs.
Well, in the UK we have a reasonable release; excellent picture and sound (surround only though), and original aspect ratio anamorphic. On the downside, there are no extras to speak of, not even subtitles which is criminal IMO. Still, £3 from ASDA so I can't complain.
sharealthough the R2 version has been cut by 22 seconds for 'dangerous horsefalls'.
The other versions available haven't been cut as far as I am aware.
But the trailer is excellent - the other 'extras' are filmography's and are not so excellent.
But I have to say that the print is still slightly damaged in places.
I heard the UK DVD had colours that were a bit washed out. Good to hear it's alright.
