Please pardon the naiveté of this question.

However, in the opening scene is Napoleon played by Rod Steiger??

IMHO the actor looks incredibly like Sir Richard Burton!

Agreed this film so begs for an epic remake!!

It's Steiger.

Though both men were brilliant, I can see how you could mistake the two at that point in their lives.

And plus, wasn't Burton considered for the role of Napoleon in this very film?

Steiger was very good in the role.

Burton could have convinced me that he actually picked up the crown of france from the gutter and placed it upon his head, himself.
