Why Wikipedia states Bunuel returned to Spain with Tristana?

Wiki:

Buñuel wanted Tristana to be his triumphant return to Spain after living in Mexico for several decades and worked hard on the film. Buñuel travelled to Spain in the spring of 1969 to begin work on the film

His triumphant return to Spain after living in Mexico was with Viridiana in 1962. Viridiana was filmed in Spain, that was his return. Since Viridiana was banned by Vatican and Spain, he returned back to Spain in 1968 to film Tristana - that is 6 years difference not several decades.

Okay, good point, it wasn't decades between those two movies but it had apparently been a long time since he was out of the country. According to TCM, 'Spain' drew him back because there was an attempt by the government to repatriate famous, successful Spaniards that had moved abroad.

That said, what I really take issue with is 'his triumphant return'. I wouldn't call Tristana a triumph. I know many disagree but in my opinion the movie sucks!

I'm sure. There has to be something behind his disturbing movies. I suppose it makes sense. He had to have dealt with some really strange things to have those kinds of thoughts going through his mind.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]
