Netflix version has no subtitles

They removed the subtitles during the Japanese parts. They also removed the titles which explained who the major characters were, such as when Yamamoto appears for the first time. They also removed the titles during the scene where Japan signs the alliance with Hitler.

It's baffling to me as to why they would do this, since the subtitles were part of the original release. All they'd have to do is show it as is, and it would be fine. Why would they expend the effort to remove the subtitles? What could possibly be the reasoning behind it? Does anyone know?

Anyway, I sent some feedback to Netflix to let them know I wasn't happy with that.

This is so that you can pretend that nothing happens during the Japanese segments, just like the government did.

Current version on Netflix HAS subtitles. I don't know what you saw.

reply

I am watching it right now on Netflix and it has all the subtitles and description cards you describe.

reply

It wasn't up last week, and it's not up now. Are you watching the DVDs from Netflix?

I am watching it right now on streaming Netflix and it has subtitles.

Then it seems that they must have restored the subtitles since I originally posted this a couple of years ago. I figured that enough people would have complained about it.

I'm watching it right now on TV and I wonder why they bothered with subtitles at all. So far all the Japanese have been in the equivalent of dress whites and subtitles are in white. Can't read a darn thing-white on white.

reply

That is the exact same complaint my wife and I have with the movie.
