I may have missed the explanation here somewhere, but - "Technical Specs" section lists a 2009 version with a running time of 2 hr 40 min (160 min) (Extended Japanese Edition 2009)

The FAQ section refers to only about 4 minutes added to the earlier Japanese edition.

Does anyone know what was added to stretch this film from 2:24 to 2:40?? (A very long intermission for theatres with small restrooms??)

They added a comedic scene in the ship kitchen where actor Kiyoshi Atsumi explains the International Date Line to another kitchen helper. Atsumi was a popular actor in Japan where he played the Tora-san character in over 40 films.
