what is the film like ?

I just read the play, and I found all the nicknames people have for each other quite confusing, going to see the play at the Nuffield next month but wondered how the film was ?
I liked KH in A Delicate Balance (1973) .... as Agnes, and the dvd extra's telling how she knocked on some unsuspecting brits door at 5am to ask for a cold bath, was so funny.

As a film, this interpretation is terrible, but is near identical to the play...In fact, it is, essentially, a filmed play. This will help clear up any confusion concerning characters and whatnot, but don't expect any miracles from this film. If you want the true 'Three Sisters' experience, I recommend you see the play live on stage.

thanks _ I saw the film and I liked it, I read the play and saw a version live, it was rewarding to approach it from all three angles.

I actually thought the film did a good Job, excellent cast, I really enjoyed Dame Joan Plowright's performance.

Yeah, despite all the film's faults -- in my opinion -- Joan Plowright is excellent as Masha.

I'd be interested in what faults you felt it had, I liked it but love to here others points of view

Don't get me wrong, I like the play. It's the bland filmmaking that slays me. Sure, in the live environment of the theatre, we're captivated by the actors -- but on film, with a stationary camera, it just doesn't have the same impact. Because of this, I thought it was very -- for lack of a better word -- BORING!
