I have purchased two versions of this special on DVD. One of them is by "Westlake Entertainment Corp". The copy is pretty bad (lots of film "grain" and "lines" throughout), but it is the longest version I've found (at 72 minutes). All the other versions are the cut-down made-for-tv versions of like 48 minutes. The problem with the long version I have is that it cuts out the live action at the beginning, where the real Hal Smith talks about his time as a park ranger, which then morphs into the animation. I also bought a version recently that is a double-feature with some Christmas special about a burro. I forget the title at the moment. Anyway, I might try to get the version mentioned at the beginning of this thread. I'm still on the hunt for the long version WITH the live action opener and closer. I know it's a silly, little-known special, but I remember it very fondly, and I still watch it every year.

Speaking of watching it every year, I don't understand why it isn't played anymore. This is an awesome special and much better than most out there.

My version is by "Cartoon Classics" of Solana Beach, California (also known as Movie Classics for their live action feature releases), has a couple of imperfect scenes, but has the live action intro and closing - didn't time it but it seemed to be around 60 minutes.

I got the UK release (doesn't appear to specify the runtime so I don't know what version I got - it was a Christmas present for my 2-year-old nephew). I have a copy of this on VHS in Italian (my first language). :)
