ABC is Showng 'Santa Claus is Comin' to Town' December 2nd, 2005

All,

I just wanted to pass along that I saw a quick commercial where ABC is planning on showing "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town" on December 2nd (2005). They showed a few quick clips and I noticed they showed a quick cut of the scene where Jessica lets her hair down and sings the song as pyschedelic flowers and such play in the background so I'm assuming ABC will run it as it was meant to be. Last time I saw the full thing, not the 5 second cut at the end of the song that we have seen in recent years. I'll be 40 next year (2006) andthe last time I have seen the special in it's entirety, I must have been 10 or so.

I'm glad to see the resurgence of seeing this specials in their entirety and not the recent butchered up ones so they can get more commercials in. I'm glad to see Rudolph as it was originally shown in 1964 before the butchered 1965 version starting from 1998 on.

Thank you morrow project! I was wondering why ABC let this classic go, since CBS chose to keep Rudolph and still playing it every year. I look forward to seeing it...again. And not all chopped up like the family channel used to present it.

Terrible, just terrible!

Well it's been many years since I saw that sequence but I believe it was right after they took Kris to jail. Beautiful song too, the best in whole special.

It's on ABC Family right now and both "If You Sit On My Lap" and "Jessica's Song", which were cut from the version they aired last year were kept in, but there were many many snippets throughout the special like parts of "First Toymaker To The King" and "Put One Foot In Front Of The Other" and even a part of "Jessica's Song" were cut, even the gag with Rudolph was cut. It's a good thing I have the actual Uncut version on DVD, I hate it when networks like ABC Family, cut a lot of stuff just for extra commercial time.

I'm watching the one on ABC right now.. and Jessica's song w/ the flowers and stuff... it actually showed. I never saw it before, so I'm assuming they're not cutting some of the scenes?

I had it on ABC the other night, but I was in and out of the room a lot (getting ready for work) so I didn't really notice what was cut and what wasn't. I was just thrilled that the show made it back to the network for the first time in many years. I've been watching it all along, because I have it on videocassette--it's always been my favorite Christmas special (though I have a bunch of 'em: Rudolph, Emmet Otter, The Grinch, White Christmas, etc.).

"My World is Beginning Today" is my favorite song in the show, too--though it makes an obvious cut because it is neither important to the story nor related to Christmas. It's just a great song.

Here's a little bit of trivia about the song "My world is beginning today". The song was written and performed by the voice actress of Jessica Claus, the late Ms. Robbie Lester. Ms. Lester passed away earlier this year, I believe it was either May or June.
