Winter Warlock

That guy always scared the sh*t out of me when I was a kid... and after watching this movie again yesterday, I can honestly say that at age 25, he still scares the sh*t out of me.

He is pretty terrifying, but his icy heart does melt at the end and he's just kind of a frail, nice old guy

I know what you both mean. lol, He used to scare me too when I was a kid.

I was terrified of the Warlock as a young child. But around third grade, he became my favourite character. I love all of his lines!

"Winter, please"
"I have no more powers...(sniff) I can't even do card tricks!"
"Well, I still have a little magic! Oh, I'm not such a loser after all!"

Huh? Uh, sure. Or maybe it was a gesture of kindness and nothing more that melted the warlock's heart. Sometimes that's all it is. No symbolism.

It's definitely fun...also kinda funny that we as grown adults are picking apart a 30-year-old kids' show all these years later :D Sort of a sad reality check, since as kids we just accepted whatever we saw and didn't care as long as we were entertained.

Winter Warlock is so awesome "Yay! I'm not such a loser after all..."

He was very freaky. Stranger even, I find a lot of Rankin Bass stuff freaky. Don't get be started on the "Abomnible Monster of the North" *shudder*

reply

I agree, he was freaky indeed--those long, pointed fingers and crooked nose scared the pee outta me as a kid!

<You cannot dismiss 'Warlock" being broken down to 'war' and 'lock' as being locked into a war as the US was at that time AND 'winter' referring to cold as in 'cold war'.>

No. Warlock is a term to describe male witches (practices of Wicca or witchcraft). It literally translates as "Oath Breaker." Originally conceived by Christians (breaking allegiance to GOD), it became a title also used by covens to describe ousted male members. Food for thought . . . see link below.

Uhm...Wicca or Withccraft?

The term "Warlock" was created long before Wicca was creaed in the 1950's.

Well, at least he becomes nicer after he got the choo-choo from Kris.

I thought the Winter Warlock was cool. I loved the deep, rumbling voice Keenan Wynn did as that particular character.

I write bios, therefore I am.
