Paul Frees, or Jean VanDerPyl?

When Kris Kringle makes his first appearance in Sombertown, one of the townswomen says to him, "You ought to be ashamed of yourself." Whereas Paul Frees (also the Burgermeister and Grimsly) is credited as the voice of the Townspeople, the voice used on that line sure sounded a lot like Jean VanDerPyl, in her "Wilma Flintstone" voice.

I don't remember the voice and she is not credited. I bet it was Joan Gardner who was the voice of Tanta Kringle. She did many voices for such productions.

I think it was Joan Gardner too, but she did sound a little like "Wilma Flintstone" (when she delivered some of her lines).

The late Ms. Van Der Pyl was under contract to Hanna Barbera, so she could not have done a Rankin & Bass show.

"The Year Without a Santa Claus" was produced in '74. Didn't they stop making "Flinstones" episodes in '66?

"The Year Without a Santa Claus" was produced in '70. Didn't they stop making "Flintstones" episodes in '66?

Not to be a jerk, but we're talking about "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town", not "The Year Without A Santa Claus". In answer to your question, yes the "Flintstones" original series stopped production in 1966. However, "The Pebbles & Bamm bamm Show" was done in 1971 and the Fintstones Comedy Hour was done in the 80's. Ms. Van Der Pyl performed Wilma Flintstone in these and others I can't recall. She was also the voice of Rosie the robot in "The Jetsons" which did a new season of episodes in the 80's.

I stand corrected! So, Ms. Vander Pyl was under contract with "Hanna-Barbera" productions when "Santa Claus is Comin" to Town" was produced.

Thanks for the info Jetfire59!

Let me apologize if my tone in correcting you on the title came off as too high & mighty. I am gulity of mixxing up similar titles myself sometimes. And you're quite welcome concerning the Hannah Barbera info. A little more concerning Ms. Van Der Pyl's performance when she was doing Rosie The Robot; She was impersonating an actress and comedienne named Anne Meara. Being a life long television junky does have its advantages at times. Thank you for the civil tone of your replies. Incidentally, my name is Steve as well. :)

No problem, Steve. I've been a "pop culture" trivia buff for most of my life, and whenever somebody in my presence makes a mistake (regarding subjects I am knowledgeable about)...I correct them, too. So, no worries. Chances are I mixed up the "Christmas Special" titles because I made my post late at night after a long stressful day at work. As a result, my judgement was impaired. I always thought the voice of "Rosie the Robot" sounded familiar but I couldn't attach a name to it. So Ms. Vander Pyl was imitating Anne Meara (wife of Jerry Stiller; mother of Ben Stiller). Very interesting!

Thanks again for the help!

Sincerely, Steve B.
