Where exactly does Santa Claus (REALLY) come from?
The name and idea, I mean, not an actual person.
He is often called "Saint Nicholas" which sounds like Santa Claus, so I thought it may be from that. Yet the Dutch have something like "Sinterklaas".
What confuses me: In Europe, St. Nicholas comes on Dec 6th. Is this the same as Santa Claus (Weihnachtsman)? Does he come again in Europe on Christmas Eve, or does he not come on Christmas Eve? Does someone else come on Christmas Eve (i.e., St. Nicholas and Santa Claus are different)? Does no one come on Christmas Eve in Europe?
