Made at the wrong time...?

Just hearing the title makes me think: dullsville.
I am not surprised people stayed away from it when it came, especially in the late 60's, early 70's!
Who would have wanted to see a film about a dusty old detective at a turbulent time like that when there was so much new exciting stuff going on?

The film had no stars in it either, except for Christopher Lee. A miscalculation on mr. Wilders part.
Having said that, I saw the trailer and it seemed quite entertaining. I want to see it.

Dear NR,
You credit the 1960's with too much interest and excitement. There were a lot of period pieces made in the era. Look at the number of Hammer films set in the 1920's or earlier. It was the time of "Bonnie and Clyde" and other gangster films. It was not behind its time; it just wasn't as good as it could have been after it was shortened.

Jesus Christ. Then what the hell was the point of the rest of your post (particular the "dullsville" nonsense)?

In england it has been shown on TCM today. Or you can find it at the dvd store. Its the one with the Christopher Lee featurette. Its worth watching and is very funny in parts.

I was here during the 1960s, and they were overrated. It wasn't as exciting a decade as you think it was. Just another ten years went by, BFD. Sherlock Holmes was a momentary relief from the boredom.
