Colin Blakely no oscar nomination?
i thought, he was excellent!
besides that, the movie is excellent... would love to see the 3 hours cut.
does anybody know, why there is none director's cut?
This film never really got out of the gate, not enough for anyone to get nominated for anything, but I agree the acting is first rate. Critics sympathetic to Billy Wilder were kind and called it his most personal film.
That's a nice way of saying that the director's own ambivalent sexual personality got the best of him, and he went a little bit too far, as most artists do once in a while. A nice film to enjoy at home on DVD today, but it was a huge bomb !
The DVD includes most of the cut scenes, in one form or another, which I found mostly disappointing.
An intriguing but very strange take on the Sherlock Holmes legend.
