Just to clarify
Hi, I have recently been able to watch both the 'moviedrome' version shown on bbc around 1991 and the 'Maverick' VHS release. The 'mdrome' version has an old style Warners logo at the start, (similar to the current Warner Independant logo) and a fairly unique circular burn mark on the top right of the print, which is present more or less throughout the movie.
I wonder if the version the BFI restored around 2000 was in fact the 'maverick' version, did anyone get to see this and if so was it dubbed as per the 'maverick' print? Id like to think the BFI know what they are doing but after seeing the version shown by the BBC in Jan this year, which seemed identical to the Maverick version including the dubbing, I think someone may have slipped up. Maybe they chose this print as it is a longer cut?
Its driving me mad that this movie, arguably one of the greatest uk films ever, is not available anywhere on dvd. If I had the cash i would licence the bloody thing and release it myself! along with the 'ultimate' doc.
Also does anyone know if the original undubbed print was ever released on VHS in the UK? and if so what the cover was like?
