Some guitar areas of scoring resemble Ry Cooder's work on 'Paris, Texas'

Is it just me or do the two bare a striking similarity in sound?

But I thought it was only black musicians that the Stones ripped off.

I think they both have some licks taken from a Blind Willie Johnson song, Dark Was The Night.

Maybe I'm missing something here but I have no idea what all of you are talking about. Why wouldn't Cooder's work on Paris,Texas (1984) remind you of his earlier work on Performance (1970)? "Memo from Turner" (written and sung by Jagger) was a hit when it was released and was most music fans first introduction to the guitar of Ry Cooder. Cooder played guitar on three tracks. He did the entire soundtrack on Paris,Texas.

I don't think the Rolling Stones (other than Jagger) performed on the soundtrack.

Apparently only Keith Richards abstained. Which is probably a statement that's never been made before.

Interesting. I thought a lot of the soundtrack sounded like early forays into the Stones' "Exile on Main St" period.

I'm pretty sure the band on "Memo from Turner" is most of Little Feat, with Jagger singing. Don't they back Randy Newman on the soundtrack too ?
