I have a very strong recollection that Jagger sang this song in the film. Single camera, him sitting playing acoustic guitar, playing straight to camera. Was I dreaming?

You weren't dreaming; he played some of that song mixed up with "Me & The Devil Blues" and some other old blues songs in the same sequence. It starts at around 1:10 if you're having trouble finding it.
