Hotrodder is correct.

Nobody knows for sure what breed the RCA Victrola dog, AKA "Nipper", is. I worked for 15 years for the public schools in Camden, New Jersey, where the Victor Talking Machine Company, which was later absorbed by RCA, was founded and which was the origin of the "Nipper" logo. The Board of Education building is housed in one of the original Victor/RCA buildings across the street from the actual "Nipper Building", another original Victor building, one of Camden's most famous landmarks and now an upscale apartment building, which has a 4-sided tower with stained glass renditions of the logo on all sides. The whole time I worked in Camden, most people said he was a Jack Russell Terrier, but now Wikipedia says he was possibly a Bull Terrier like Willie, or a Smooth Fox Terrier, or a possible mix of any or all of the above.

Not many times I've actually learned something on IMDB!Interestingly--but off-topic--I have tried for many years to find good and truly comprehensive sites about Camden (being from PA but afraid to actually travel to see Camden). There's no way I'd have learned that RCA Victor was centered in your city.

Thank you.

You're not unwise to be wary of traveling to Camden. I never lived there but commuted from the suburbs (Turnersville), and retired from my job as a school psychologist over seven years ago. I'm also a retired Army Armor/Cavalry officer who was with the Jersey Guard when I started working there, and had been in the habit of keeping my field gear in the trunk of my car. After an incident my first year in which there were shootings in an alley in broad daylight right outside a school where I was working while classes were in session, I wore my helmet and flak vest until I was out of that neighborhood, kept them in my back seat and got into the habit of wearing them any time I had to be in the city after dark.

Here's some more info on Nipper the dog. One of the reasons it's uncertain what his exact breed was may be that his last owner, who was the brother of the original owner, painted the famous painting of him listening to the Victrola more than two years after Nipper's death, so the image was probably from memory. (No known photos of Nipper have been published.)

Always assumed Nipper was a Jack Russell so your post is interesting, MadTom. Reading (on Wiki) that the dog was called Nipper because it used to bite the back of people's legs makes him sound like a Jack Russell to me- I still bear the scars from one of the little bastards on my calf!
As regarding Patton's dog it does show that Patton at least liked something English!

Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

Agreed. MadTom, if you write a blog, please post the URL. I still can't decide if Willie (or Nipper!) scares me, like that British lady's pomeranian in the movie. 
