Patton's prayer before his apology speech ?

Anybody know if his prayer was a direct quote from the bible, philosopher, saint ?
Would be interesting to know..here it is:
My god, thou art my god, verily will I seek thee, my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longest for thee, in a dry and thirsty land, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary, my soul followeth hard after thee, but those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth, they shall fall by the sword, they shall be a portion for foxes, but the king shall rejoice in god, everyone that swearweth by him shall glory, but the mouth of those that speak lies shall be stopped.
Sounds like the biggest bunch of bull ever, designed to fool the gullible and instilling a phony sense of sanctity into the proceedings. Taking another look at this film after many years, and I have to hand it to the producers, they made a rude, foul mouthed, unpredictable, and mentally unbalanced general into a hero. Might have more...

Thanks. Personally I thought it was a poor choice and way overkill. He was only being reprimanded and asked to apologize. From the tone of this psalm you would think he was about to be tortured and subjected to abuse. There were no "lies" involved here either, but his accusers are supposed to be "a portion for foxes" ??
Part of the continual phony sanctimonious tone of this film that wants us to believe he was actually some kind of super warrior reincarnated from the past, with direct connections to God, and powers of predestination. Normally this would be laughed off by an audience, but the film takes it very seriously and makes every attempt to convince us that it is true.

Apparently you've never read his biographies.. Gee was EXTREMELY well versed in the Bible. But then again you sound like a typical atheist. I'm sure you always think you're the smartest man in the room...

reply

Too bad that a person of faith should be so bigoted and judgmental.

reply

How was I being bigoted? Please show me where I said something racist, sexist, etc.

reply

Please. As if you didn't know bias exists against people based on their religious beliefs.

Tell us - how is calling someone a "typical atheist" any different from calling someone a typical Jew? or black? or woman?

Why the pejorative generalization that an atheist thinks they're the smartest person in any room?

reply

No there's a difference...

Oh? What is that?

Thanks for your comments everyone, forgot I posted this way back in February. Just happened to see it on TV last night again. It is a handsome production, with great performances from the principles, but still that strange tone of attempting to make us believe that Patton was some kind of reincarnated super warrior from the past, with direct connections to God, and powers of predestination. Somehow, it works, it manages to suspend disbelief, probably due to Scott's uncanny performance...truly amazing.
By the way, I am not an atheist, just suspicious of people that claim that "God is on their side". Actions speak louder than words.
