Rommel's Book

...was NOT entitled The Tank in Attack -- as is clearly shown in the movie.

It was actually called Infantry Attacks (sometimes published as simply Attacks).

It was Rommel's recounting of his experiences as a company and battalion commander of INFANTRY during World War One.

The book was written and published years before Rommel ever commanded panzer units.

So the movie is full of crap on that score.

Still, Rommel was a magnificent bastard...

The tactics he talked about with Infantry worked with tanks as well....leading from the front, stamina, boldness.

I have read the book and there is nothing there to indicate the Patton character could relate to the battle taking place before him.

Germans advanced without any cover or reconnaissance over open ground and were pummeled by artillery.

In the book it was mountain warfare, moving quickly, surprising the enemy and taking advantage of the disorganization and shock caused to roll up the enemy line.
